Many people set goals or resolutions for the New Year. And, goal setting is a good way to accomplish tasks that you really want to achieve. The danger is in setting yourself up for failure or disappointment by creating unrealistic goals like changing a lifelong habit or losing a certain amount of weight in an unreasonable amount of time. This is ultimately counter-productive because frustration is then followed by shame, guilt and apathy. A healthier approach is to measure the process, not the outcome. If you stay the course, even when there are minor setbacks, you will eventually get to the finish line. Celebrating your successes will help motivate you to reach the next milestone. Be kind to yourself.
